US to Open 100,000 Appointment Slots for Interviews in November

Appointment Slots for Interviews in November
October 18, 2022

The United States consulates and embassy in India will start conducting student visa interviews in mid-November. They will also be opening 100,000 slots for those applying for H and L worker visas in the coming weeks. However, these openings will primarily benefit dropbox cases for first-timers.

Dropbox allows individuals who are renewing their visas and meet the necessary eligibility requirements to avoid attending an in-person interview. Without the interview, the individuals need only to submit all required documents to receive their visa stamps.

However, dropbox is not an actual box. Dropbox is the facility or process people use to apply for a visa without a visa interview. You must submit your documents to the VFS location assigned by the US embassy. Here are the criteria needed to qualify to use dropbox:

  • You must renew your visa in the same category
  • Your home country must have issued your current visa
  • You must have received the visa after January 1, 2008
  • Your visa should not contain annotations such as “Department Authorization” or “Clearance Received”
  • Your 14th birthday must have passed before having a visa issued
  • You are not applying for a replacement visa
  • You have not faced denial in a different category since your most recently issued visa.
  • Your visa needs to be valid or expired in the previous 48 months

The embassy also stated that it would take measures to reduce the waiting times for B1/B2 visas. These visas are for tourists and people in business. Unfortunately, the wait time for these visas is more than 800 days.

The embassy will also interview students from the middle of November through the end of December. Furthermore, F, M, and J visa slots will receive greater priority in the coming weeks.

The Minister Counselor for Consular Affairs in the US Embassy, Don Heflin, stated they expect full staffing next year. Furthermore, the minister assures the public that consulates and embassies will be able to process many more visas by 2023. This improved processing is excellent news for people from India waiting for their visas.

For those who hire foreign nationals, it will be necessary to complete a considerable amount of paperwork. This paperwork includes Form I-9, which can be confusing due to the ever-changing regulations. One of the best ways to ensure your business remains in compliance is to invest in an electronic I-9 management system. This tool can guide HR personnel through every step and ensure uniform and secure storage of documentation and paperwork.

Streamline your hiring process with an automated employment eligibility verification and ensure compliance today with I-9 Compliance.
